How does webb telescope produce colourful images when it uses infrared camera only? , image produced by jwst telescope.

As we saw the most beautiful and detailed colorful images from James Webb Space Telescope but the question is how it produces these colourful images using only infrared cameras.

Carina Nebula

Southern Ring Nebula

Why Infrared ?

Using different infrared cameras.

Stars and Galaxies having a big distance from earth. These are producing light of wavelength in visible range as well as infrared range. Due to light coming from a distant object with facing lots of dust particles the visible range shift towards infrared of light. so dust particles reduce the visibility and reason for the red shift of light. There JWST Telescope uses the infrared camera and with measuring the wave length it prouces a colourful images.

Processing

Webb telescope sent its first image in July 2022.The colourful images take a long process to make it very detailed.

JUST uses 4 type of cameras

  • NIRcam
  • NIRspec
  • NIRISS
  • MIRI
  • SMACS 0723

After getting the raw images from these infrared cameras, the pictures go through a long complex process. And we see a picture as a product of multiple exposure. So we can see the colourful pictures
